Our engineering investment is key to developing existing and new product categories for today’s technology and tomorrow’s. Our 11 fully-equipped design and development centers with 300+ engineers, techs, and designers are supported by product validation labs in New York and Texas.

Dedicated engineering teams design our products from the ground up using 3D design modeling of product componentry, tooling, and the complete manufacturing process. Our engineering methodologies include CAD and FEA modeling (magnetic, structural and stress analysis modeling), fast prototyping – SLA stereo lithography analysis, and digital performance analysis.

Expert Manufacturing

We understand it’s not enough to be the coverage leader with more than 80,000 parts for domestic and import vehicles; we’re an expert manufacturer, with 18 facilities covering over 3 million square feet. SMP® plants hold the latest IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 certifications, ensuring every Standard® part can be installed with confidence.

Expert Manufacturing

Following several strict design steps (Design For Reliability, DFMEA, Design For Manufacture), our products go through extensive and rigorous testing and product validation to ensure that the product meets or exceeds customer requirements. Product characteristics are evaluated after each step of the Design Validation Plan using our comprehensive Tests Labs:

  • Characteristics: Resistance, Position, Flow, Leak, Pressure, Temperature, Angle, etc.
  • Life Testing:
    • Environmental Tests: Temperature cycling, Thermal shock, Low Temperature, High Temperature, Salt spray, Salt fog, Humidity, Chemical exposure, Material compatibility, etc.
    • Mechanical Tests: Axial load, Torsional load, Bending moment, Shock Load, Drop, Vibration, Overpressure, Burst pressure
    • Durability: Endurance under various conditions, accelerated
  • Test Equipment: Vehicle Dynamometer, Engine Dynamometer, 5 Gas Analysis, Vehicle Cold Chamber, Vehicle Test Fleet, Thermal Cycling Chamber, Special Durability Test Equipment, Vibration rigs, Salt Spray/Humidity Chamber, Spray Pattern Laser Analyzer, Leak Testers, Flow stands, etc.

Our design and testing abilities and competencies are complemented by vertically integrated and a wide array of Manufacturing processes. This allows SMP the flexibility to design the right product to meet all our customers special requirements. Manufacturing Capabilities include the process of:

  • Metal: Stamping and Forming, Screw Machining, CNC Machining, EDM, Thermal Deburr, Lapping, Heat Treat, Wire and Drilling EDM, Grinding, Deburring, Powder coating, Compression molding etc.
  • Polymers: injection molding, vacuum forming, dosing, curing
  • Plating / Coating: Zinc Plating with Clear or Yellow Dichromate, Copper and Brass Bright Dipping, epoxy painting, Powder Coat Painting
  • Heat Treatment: Annealing, Ion Nitriding, Nitrocarburizing, Tempering.Bobbin and Coil Winding
