The air conditioner compressor is the heart of the refrigeration system and functions as a suction, compression, and circulation pump. The compressor can be regarded as the interface between the low-pressure end and the high-pressure end of the refrigerant circuit, and the refrigerant is sucked and compressed from the low-pressure side to raise the temperature and pressure, and then pumped into the high-pressure side to reciprocate.
SMP manufactures Belt Drive Compressors:
The required amount of refrigerant gas is sucked in and compressed by changing the pressure balance within the compressor. The swashplate angle can be adjusted, which forces the piston to make larger or smaller strokes.
The pistons move back and forth when power from the engine causes the shaft and swashplate to rotate. The ends of the piston intake pressurize and discharge refrigerant.
The compressor is constructed from one fixed and one rotating scroll in an offset spiral configuration. Shaft rotation creates spaces of varying volume btw the 2 scrolls, causing refrigerant to be sucked in and compressed.
